Offshore survey: bathymetry, subbottom & side scan sonar
The offshore survey required for the upgrading of the existing Conventional Buoy Mooring (CBM) system was awarded to PMI in January 2007.
PMI mobilized personnel and equipment to Ghana. TOM supplied the survey vessel Kpone Express and the survey commenced in February 2007.
The Scope of the survey included the following;
Marine Bathymetric Survey, to identify safe vessel approach and departure routes to and from the existing CBM.
Sub Bottom Profiling, to provide information for detail design of the upgrading of the existing CBM as well as the new SPM site.
Side Scan Sonar, to identify and coordinate exiting structures in the area, pipelines and ship wrecks.
The Works
The objectives of the survey were as follows:
To accurately map the lateral extent and thickness of unconsolidated sediment on the seafloor.
To record all surficial seafloor features, natural, man-made and ship wrecks which may possibly be hazardous to vessel navigation.
To accurately record and map the locations of all offshore oil and gas pipelines, using all the available data, including echo-sounder, sub-bottom profiler and side scan sonar.
To map the depth of the seafloor in the proposed survey areas, using an appropriate echosounder system, applied tide and heave corrections and calibration instrumentation.
A total length of 500line kilometres was surveyed.
The scope of works was completed within the programmed time and budget.
