Port Of Xeros, Cyprus Free Port
And Container Terminal
Proposal
Rent A Port has requested Project Management International Limited (PMI) to prepare a pre feasibility analysis for a proposed container
terminal in Cyprus.
The pre feasibility study included the investigation of:
- Existing ports and container terminal capacity
- Container routes and requirements
- Conceptual layouts and cost estimates
Due to an increased demand for
container terminals in the Eastern
Mediterranean and the superior
geographic location of Cyprus
makes the port of Xeros an ideal
location for a container terminal.
The pre feasibility, concepts and
construction cost estimate are
based on the following:
- Depth in Port 15.50 m
- Total Quay Length 1750 m
- Total land Area 170.5 ha
- Container Stacking Area 49.4 ha
- Total Stacks 90720 TEU′s
The facility envisaged will
ultimately be capable of handling
1 500 000 TEU′s per annum.
The Works
An area potentially suited to the development of a container handling facility in Morfou Bay on the North Western side of Cyprus has been identified.
Typical proposed cross sections for the breakwater and quays were designed and approximate calculations have been made for the material needed for the breakwaters, quays as well as the material that needs to be dredged.
A high level preliminary cost estimate was made in the proposal using basic data obtained from various sources
and assumptions in an effort to determine the
approximate cost of the project.
